Terms of use
Last updated: 2026-07-26
viewbus is free software in the "costs nothing" sense, not the open-source sense: the source is
closed, but you may use it for anything, including commercial work, without paying or signing up.
These terms cover the desktop app, this website, and the JSON feeds served from
viewbus.app. Installing or using viewbus means you accept them. They're written to be
read, not to be impressive.
Who you're dealing with
viewbus is made and operated by Håkon Lia, an individual developer based in Norway. There is no company, no support contract, and no service-level agreement. Reach me through the routes on the support page.
What you may do
- Install and run viewbus on as many machines as you like, personally or at work.
- Use it against production systems, at your own discretion and risk.
- Build tools on the documented local HTTP API and the built-in MCP server, and distribute those tools freely.
- Write and share themes.
What you may not do
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app, except where that right can't be excluded by law.
- Redistribute modified builds, or distribute viewbus as though it were yours.
- Sell viewbus, or bundle it into a paid product as a headline feature, without asking me first.
- Use it to access systems you aren't authorised to access.
Your data and your Azure resources
viewbus talks to Azure with your credentials, on your machine. You are responsible for the access you grant it and for what you do with that access. Some operations are destructive by design — purging a queue, emptying a dead-letter queue, bulk-deleting messages — and those actions are permanent. viewbus asks for confirmation, but it will do exactly what you tell it to. Verify the target resource before you confirm, and keep your own backups of anything you can't lose.
viewbus has no servers and stores nothing about you. The privacy page lists every file it writes and every host it contacts.
No warranty
viewbus is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. I don't promise that it is free of defects, that it will suit your setup, that it will keep working after an Azure API change, or that any given release will be available indefinitely.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, I am not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, nor for lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, deleted messages, or business interruption, arising from your use of or inability to use viewbus — even if I've been told such damages are possible. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for viewbus, which is zero.
Nothing here limits liability for wilful misconduct or gross negligence, or any other liability that can't be limited under Norwegian law. If you're a consumer, your mandatory statutory rights are unaffected.
Third-party services
viewbus connects to Microsoft Azure using your own credentials. Your use of Azure is governed by your agreement with Microsoft, not by these terms, and Azure charges — including request charges generated by viewbus peeking or listing resources — are between you and Microsoft. viewbus is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Microsoft. Distribution through the Microsoft Store or Homebrew is additionally subject to those platforms' own terms.
Updates and availability
The app checks viewbus.app/latest.json on startup and can install updates you accept;
Microsoft Store installs update through the Store. I may change, break, or discontinue any feature,
and I may stop publishing viewbus entirely. Copies you've already installed keep working — nothing
phones home for permission to run.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them, and material changes will be called out in the changelog. Continuing to use viewbus after a change means you accept the new version.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Norway, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you're a consumer resident elsewhere in the EEA, you keep the protection of the mandatory rules of your own country.
